How to Get There

By Car:

The Blue Mountains are easily accessible from Sydney, up the M4 from Strathfield and on the Great Western Highway. While Katoomba is an easy 1½ hours drive from Sydney, there is an alternative route along the Bell's Line of Road, which will take you through the breathtaking Blue Mountains National Park on your way. Find this route at Richmond and follow the signs through Mt Tomah to Mt Victoria. This takes longer, but is a spectacular drive. Alternatively, you can drive a circular route, up one way from Sydney and back the other.

By Air:

Katoomba has a small local airport, but it is not serviced by the main airlines. However, it is an easy ride by train from Sydney international or domestic aiports into Sydney Central and then on a Mountains train on the Lithgow line.

By Train:

This is the best and easiest way to travel on public transport to the Blue Mountains from Sydney. See the CityRail website at www.cityrail.info for all the information you will need regarding trains.

The train from Sydney to Katoomba, and then along the string of stations to Lithgow, leaves Sydney Central and travels through Strathfield, Parramatta, Blacktown and Penrith on its way to Katoomba. Being a commuter service, it is frequent and relatively cheap, and takes around two hours. The Blue Mountains towns of Wentworth Falls, Leura, Medlow Bath, Blackheath and Mt Victoria are all on this line.

By Bus/Coach:

Many coach companies offer day trips to the Blue Mountains from Sydney, most leaving from Circular Quay. However, the mountains warrant much more than a day, so make the time to stay at least a few days to savour the fresh mountain air and the superb scenery.
