Blue Mountains Accommodation

Each town of the Blue Mountains has its own character and shopping experience. Katoomba, being the regional capital, has all the usual shops you would expect, plus a plethora of adventure sports shops from which you can equip yourself for abseiling, climbing and bushwalking. Katoomba is also rich in secondhand shops, especially books, so you'll never be without something to read. Art also plays a big part here, and there are numerous galleries and arty shops. Along Katoomba's main street are some Edwardian and Victorian buildings of great note. The Carrington Hotel retains all its grandeur, but perhaps the best is the chocolate shop, The Paragon, on the right as you are going down the hill. The stunning art nouveau building has decorative windows and fittings that enhance the handmade chocolates.

Leura itself is one big art gallery and showcase of beautiful things. The wide main street is divided by a nature strip planted with flowers and trees, the shopfronts are creatively painted, the window displays are works of art, and the contents of the shops are to die for. Whether you spend up big or keep your wallet in your pocket, you'll be delighted with the charm of Leura.

Blackheath and the other villages along the ridge also offer a good range of antique, art, book and secondhand shops. Intersperse your shopping with visits to display gardens, or just wander the streets that may offer you glimpses of the famous scenery.
